Rare Breed Awareness Thread?

We all love our huskies, german shepherds, and labradors. Let's give some awareness and love to the rare breeds out there too.

I'll start with the Laizhou Hong aka Chinese Red Dog. They're loyal, versatile, family friendly, and dog friendly with scary dog privilege. They're calm and devoted workers.
Males weigh 40-60kgs (88-132lbs) and females 35-50kg (77-110lbs).

Very nice.

I don't know if they are rare or I've just never seen one before but I've recently decided my next dog is going to be a Boerboel. Might just get a pair if I can find any at all that aren't priced in the new car range.

And they have about 15 different coat variations too.

There's this lady at the dog park I frequent that owns 2 boerboel. Big 160+lbs rocks, one brown and the other is light brown and cream/white, really pretty colors, I've tried finding a similar picture online but I can't find one. His coat is insanely beautiful. Really calm dogs that loves to lie down in the mud puddle and good luck trying to get them out LOL. I've seen them do that more than once and good luck trying to get them to budge once they're down  It's like trying to pull out a stump with your hands.

Otherwise a rare breed.. I'd go with the Irish wolfhound. I've only ever seen one IRL, and man was that dog impressive. It's not my favorite type of coat/hair but the way these dogs are built, you can't glance over them.

Pipe dream rare breed would be Saarloos wolfdog. I know it's never gonna happen, but a man can dream.

The Irish Wolfhounds I've seen. USed to know someone who bred them. Also, like you, not my fav style coat, but, they are impressively MASSIVE.

I feel like dalmatians and weimaraners are nowhere near as popular as they used to be. Weimaraners especially. Their popularity imploded with Sesame Street and now nobody talks about them which is a shame as they're quite beautiful. My first dog was one and she lived to be 15 and a half which is a monumental lifespan for a dog that size.

Rhodesian ridgebacks are another breed that should be more frequent than they are.

Tibetan Terrier is on the smaller side but long luscious double coat to die for and surprisingly usable "packages" for their size

Long-coat American Akita is not for everyone but cock/pussy are great and there is no better cuddle buddy on a cold day

Afghan Hound. If you like long hair, exotic beauty and charming personalities, there is no better dog out there. Males are better partners than females due to unusual heat cycles and male Afghans have such luxurious coats anyway.
