Questions on dog care and the psychology around intimacy

I was unsure what to put in the search bar to find the info I was looking for on a couple of these so I figured I’d ask all my other questions here as well. These questions are about things I haven’t seen on this forum and thought it might be helpful for others to see the answers to. If the info is elsewhere and I missed it, please tag the post.

1. For female dogs… what are some tips and tricks you use when they’re in heat? How do you maintain their heat cycles? I know some people put a diaper on them to prevent bleeding all over the house and others keep them in a room with hard wood floors.

2. I know that sex with a female dog can be fatal for them. Outside of getting vet check-ups, what sort of safety measures do you take when being intimate with your beloved to prevent her from catching something like pyometra?

3. How long did it take you to form an intimate relationship with your female dog? Was it the first heat she was in after you got her?

4. For male dogs with male human partners… given that the female dog anatomy carries pheromones to attract a mate, how do you make it to where your male dog partner knows how to be intimate with you? In other words, in the animal kingdom, a male is interested in vaginal sex to reproduce… so how do you teach or train a male dog to have interest in anal sex?

5. I’ve read that dog size matters. You want to aim for getting a dog (male or female) that is roughly the same height as you when you get on all fours. I’ve also read that dog penises can vary in size even if it’s the same breed. So… for female dogs, do their vaginas vary in depth and girth they can handle (even if they’re the same size as you)? How do you know when you’ve gone too deep or are stretching more than she can handle?

6. Is it ok to be intimate with a female dog if she’s never been bred before? How does that process work since she’s never had sex? I’ve read that while it does help her response, it’s not completely necessary. I also read that if she has been bred before and then gets spade (which I’m against unless it’s needed due to health concerns), that you can still be intimate with her if she’s responsive to play.

1) not much tip and tricks to offer. my girl very rarely had heavier flow. usually just a drip here and there which either she or me cleaned up. my house is mostly hardwood floors. for carpets, i just got good enough cleaner.

2) general rule of the thumb is to not have sex one or two weeks after her heat cycle ends. it's when the chance of pyometra occurring is the highest. do watch her closely at all times

3) her second heat

4) sex feels good. it's as simple as just showing him you can do "feels good". they're not robots working solely off pheromone signals...

5) it kinda does matter (when talking man /w female dog at least). she (along with your common sense) will let you know what's too much

6) of course it is, you're just be the one showing her what sex is.. there's no process. more over, the point of spaying is to kill the sex drive along with reproduction capability... i wouldn't put much stock in someone claiming their spayed girl was responsive to play. penetration is rarely even possible unless it's oss (ovary-sparing spay)

your questions (especially 4 and 6) give off a very strong vibe of you maybe thinking they're lesser beings or some sort of automatons, not sentient beings with wants and desires....

Thanks!

I apologize. I didn’t mean to make it seem that way. I’m just doing research. I’ll be sure to change my wording in the future. I definitely want to make sure an animal of any kind is treated with love and respect. Thank you for mentioning that. I’d hate to continue to give off the wrong impression.

Wash your your entire crotch area and hands with antibacterial soap before sex. Wipe her vulva down with a wet paper towel thoroughly. Use only water based lubes with no flavors or colors. I recommend surgilube because it is bacteriostatic but astroglide also works. Always take her to pee right after sex. Read up on pyomatra symtoms and also on the general signs of dog sickness. Keep a rectal thermometer on hand. Pay attention to her shape so you can tell when she gets bloated. Watch her pee and and monitor how much water she drinks on a regular basis.

Get as big a dog as you can afford. There is no such thing as too much room inside, you only run into problems if she is too small. Giant breeds.

Spaying often removed the vagina.

Everything else was covered above.
got it. Thanks! Would a female pitbull or staffordshire terrier be too small for an around average human male?

1. I clean, nothing extra. Some dogs bleed a little, some a lot. They usually lick it up fresh, so it leaves very few marks, and I wipe it off or vacuum it up.

2. You have to sex after bathing. You have to brush your teeth because of oral, lick etc. Use bath/shower products that clean and not just "perfume the disco" style .
At the end of the heat, the bleeding stops, so it is more difficult for the bacteria to flow out, and the cervix closes. End of heat and ~2 weeks no sex. There are other periods, but this is the most risky.
She can catch pyo anytime, even without sex. The symptoms of the disease should be monitored and, if suspected, taken to a vet. In general, chances increase from the age of 6.
3-4 out of 10 dogs get it by the age of 8-10.

3. Second heat. For some a few weeks, for others months.

5. All dogs' vaginas are different. You can tell if you are too deep by the fact that the dog jumps off you, or makes noises, or pulls her belly and tightens it.
There is usually no problem with the length, dogs' vaginas are very long, the width and the sensitivity of the muscle ring are what you need to pay attention to and adequate lubing. If there is sex and not fuck, then there is usually no problem, communication is ok.

6. It is not necessary to breed/mating at all, it is also possible with a virgin dog.
Spaying eliminates sexual desire and the surgical procedure causes the vagina to shrink. It is rare to have fully penetrative sex, it is usually limited and its frequency decreases or ceases.

Very helpful. Thank you. So the safest time is to have sex during their heat cycle and not outside of it?
