Might be....H 8th stripped a lot of the lead rooves of orthodox Churches, for both monetary and practical reasons
He seemed to think if the Catholic Church was unhoused they'd be forced to his POV. Didn't work. The designs for the lesser churches were all pretty similar. There's a similar ruin in Jedburgh.

For Erja...Sweetheart Abbey, to go with Whitby. I have a cousin who used to reside across the main road from this. She was maybe three hundred yards away. My Parents used to picnic there during WWII, when they had leave.

"Flight Of Fancy- Off To The Sabbath", 1927. William Mortensen. Mortensen was a master manipulator of photographs, which this is. I originally thought it was a lithograph, because that was precisely what the Maker wanted.

Another photo-manipulation by Mortensen. Ansel Adams hated this guy, and would have wiped him from History. The renewed Romance Age, especially the Caspar David Friedrich paintings now coming back into vogue bring Mortensen back for a better look.
This photo, "L'Amour" is from 1935, and nods to 'King Kong'.
