Dragonfly.
The patterns in Insect wings are a major classification feature. Dragonfly males are quite rough in mating, and often do a great deal of damage to Females. When they clasp a female with their claws, they can blind or even kill their chosen mate. But at least one species solves the problem with two different colors of females....The early hatchees are one color, perhaps bright blue, and the latter hatch is red. The first group bears the brunt of the fury of mating, in a kind of sacrificial way. As the new color replaces the old, the males are knackered enough to be more gentle with the ladies, and the species continues. Talk about "Tough love".....
