It is....Alsoknown in Germany as an Auerhahn...
The story goes that they are so wary they can be closed on only at the height of their mating call....they go sex-stupid.....typical males.

Oddly, these birds migrate into Europe out of the Northof Scotland. Years ago there was a Caper in one of Scotland's Forest Parks who adopted a Ranger, and would follow him wherever Ranger duties took them. This big bird was known as "Jock".
