Neck biting

Hi everyone

We have been seeing an owner who we met on Fetlife who has with a very experienced rottie and it’s going very well - the only problem is he keeps biting Sophie’s neck. At first it was very light but last night it was more aggressive (and during quite a long tie).

It was distracting for her and made it all less pleasurable. Any tips gratefully received.

Yes and he’s helpful in trying to stop it during sex, but he just shrugs his shoulders and says he used to do it with his ex wife too.

Is there something she is doing wrong?

No. The dog is just piss poor trained. Sad to say, but you have an owner problem more than a dog problem. In "nature" he'd turn with a bitch, if that can be "trained" out of him, so can that biting shit.

Don't get me wrong, some like that, but most don't. *maybe* his wife did, maybe HE did, whatever, in any case, that is a training and behavioral issue.

Yeah, can't get anything done if no one communicates, right? A Muzzle is an option as well. Meaning it will solve the immediate issue, not that the owner will go for that. Just an idea.

Isn't it just a natural thing that male dogs do? I saw somewhere that during intercourse, the male dog might bite the females neck because there's a nerve there.

Just for the record, if the fall back position is "It's natural" or something, I have on more than one occasion witnessed a K9 bitch apply some correction of her own to a biting male, not even all DOG bitches like that biting shit.

P.s.....I'm the LAST one to chime in saying an owner *has* to do jack shit, it's a sellers market and I get what I want or nobody does........BUT, I am a firm believer that responsibility comes with that benefit. And, biting an over aggressive behavior is and can be, VERY dangerous, in more ways than you might think.

*MIGHT*

NOT will. And, as noted, k9 bitches won't always put up with that shit either. She has sharp ass teeth too, and she damn well will use them if needed.

No worries. All kinds of misunderstood things out there, especially in this field. Some, a very select, aggressive few do bite like that, but it's far less common than most think. Hell, Roosters do that EVERY time, that's the "hold" for them, otherwise, she runs away, lol.

Sophie couldn’t run away if she tried. She’s 5’3 and that knot is like a tennis ball!

The dog should be in a muzzle. They're harmless and the problem is solved.

Correct this NOW because one strong bite could be bad

lol.........exactly the idea I had in mind in calling it dangerous. Just randomly, what if the "bitch" in question freaks out and tries to get away? BAD shit, that's what. And then there's the teeth themselves, they ARE made to cut flesh, are they not? Just dangerous and irresponsible, imo.

100% agree. I didn't want to hit that point to hard and cause them to lose their.....*connection*.............and, at the end of the day, the affected party has to decide where their best course lays.

lol........I *just* now caught the fetlife reference...............that may actually tell you a little bit about those shrugs.........just sayin........

If they have already been successful then they can find someone else. If my girl is getting bit and the owner shrugs his shoulders after I address it, it won't wind up a good night. F him and find someone else who isn't unto it as a 'taboo' only. No reason for a lack of compassion for and between all parties

intresting. In all my years I have never seen a male dog bite a female when they are copulating, it is not a normal behavior and should be discouraged. Biting is a dangerous, destructive, aggressive behavior. It is a way that a dog asserts dominance. I would never accept this kind of behavior from any animal I owned. Somebody allowed this boy to be bad and he took it as a sign it was an ok, correct thing to be doing. As with any misbehaving child he should be disciplined. It truly would be annoying to have this taking place.

You get no argument from me, I agree with you 1000%. As I mentioned, I view that as MY responsibility if MY dog is acting out like that, I have and will again, get rid of dogs with behavioral issues rooted in stubbornness and such. I mean, I rehome them where those issues won't play, but I don't tolerate issues that can't be resolved and interfere with the experience OR are what I feel to be dangerous. There is enough risk inherent as it is.

To be clear, I have had mostly Rotties and Pits. And I very very rarely have any of those kinds of issues. Or even the beginnings of them. All but a few of my dogs have been more or less giant puppies. Very loving and affectionate dogs in every way. Treat a dog right and immediately come down on any behavioral stuff in a consistent and firm manner and you have almost no problems at all.

Thanks everyone. I’m slightly reluctant to find a new owner. We are at the beginning of our journey still - she only really enthusiastically sucked him after the tie for the first time last night and is really beginning to enjoy it all.

But the longer term might require other owners nearby of which I’m certain there are many
I understand. You can LOOK while still doing what you're doing. Or not, it's you're decision. And, it may be possible to resolve the issue amicably, who knows until you try? But, you lose nothing by doing other window shopping. Besides, depending on your area, pickings could be slim or abundant, and you'd be the best judge of that.

without passing any judgement, you should find someone else. this owner doesn't seem to care and his boy showing this behavior is clearly the owner's problem. he should've stopped the boy from doing anything at first occurrence allowing the boy to make the "biting = no sex" connection himself.... maybe the owner gets off on his boy being "aggressive breeder"?

in any case, do stay safe. i don't think any "taboo" is worth possible bite marks or worse....

Guarantee you he gets off on it.

Huh? That could be a problem. Have you two met with the dog a few times? Is he getting more aggressive?;
