Wow that's crazy, lol. I wish I was in that experiment ;) But seriously cool history. I didn't know about this at all and i also did my own research to find out it's quite legit. Interesting. ?

Wow, now that you bring it up, I remember hearing something about this a while ago.
For some reason, dolphin zoos seem to be the only non-domestic-animal zoos that get attention in the media regularly. We had Malcolm Brenner, the author of Wet Goddess, as a popular example.

As for the OP:
Personally, I do not have much hope that zoophilia would ever be accepted in the future. But on the slim chance it may be, I think that highly intelligent animals such as dolphins, elephants, wolves, etc would be the sort of "gateways" past the species barrier. These are highly emotive creatures, which allows for humans to empathize with them and find common ground. As a side note, most of these animals are more capable than humans at taking care of themselves, so the whole "rape" argument would fall flat. Especially since this instance has a female human and male nonhuman who is initiating the encounter - the ball was entirely in the dolphin's court, and the human was passive.

Sorry for the slight divergence of topic, I just felt this would be worth pointing out.
