Movie rant..

Gunslinger1X

Esteemed Citizen of ZV
Ok, i grew up in the 80's and comics were one of my favorite forms of entertainment.
I had the G.I. Joe series from beginning (1982) up until i left for the military after HS in 1989.

While i found the movies a bit campy, the storyline and characters were fairly true to canon, however i just watched Snake Eyes Origins and as excited as i was about the movie, it was a complete and utter letdown.

There was almost nothing that followed the original storyline of the characters, absolutely nothing in common with the previous movies and the plot was almost like the guys at SciFi channel wrote it.

To say I'm annoyed is an understatement.

Why can't these idiots in Hollywood leave a good storyline intact, instead of trying to "jazz it up" and in turn ruining ot completely?

End of rant

i haven't seen it (comic movies are not really my cup of tea), but i'm gonna go out on a limb and assume it's another "something needs to explode every 20 seconds or the audience is totally gonna leave!" kind of movie?

Nope, thats why i say it COULD have been a good movie, had they not felt the need to bastardize the Characters

Yeah I feel like they get ahold of the rights to make these movies and ruin them. I mean when I look at what they did to star wars it drives me crazy.

The Jack Reacher character in Lee Childs books is 6 foot 5 inches tall and built like an ape. They cast Tom Cruise as Reacher in the movies.... Hollywood does take quite a few liberties just to make an extra dollar.

The real problem is hollywood just trying to turn anything and everything they think will make a buck into a movie. Fact is very few media are compatible with being made a movie, even books don't work.

You can't cram a 500 page book into a 2 hour movie without losing at least half of it.

You can't cram a decade+ long densely interwoven and not usual coherent video game franchise into a 2 hour movie without confusing the fuck out of anyone who doesn't know the franchise and pissing off the fans by making small changes.

Even comic books were impossible to make a successful movie out of until the marvel universe, and it only succeeded by turning it into an over decade long marathon of interconnected movies crammed down the viewer's throats every 6 months.

Books are books.
Games are games.
Toys are Toys.
TV is TV.
Movies are movies.
They're completely different forms of storytelling that can't be crossed. They need to stop trying to turn non-movies into movies.

i agree that you can't just turn a 500 page book of story telling into a movie (looking at you eragon), but i think it's possible if you do it on a smaller scale. look at power rangers for example. it did fairly well i think (at least i loved it as a kid) and it was more or less just a toy commercial slapped together from stock footage of a different japanese show and a sitcom... lord of the rings did pretty well (i admit i didn't read the books), too. and then they decided to turn one short book into three movies....

An abridged version is acceptable in some cases, as long as they remain true to the characters themselves.
Thats why "The Dark Tower" was such a complete flop

I was always a Batman fan. That said I’ve never really read the comics. Lol, just love mes some Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson’s ?
