First i was planning this as an abc like game, but that would make things so much complicated...

So the idea is to show some of the food in your region/country..

Please include a picture of you want/like.
Even feel free to share recipes if you like.

One of the best things iny opinion (also unhealthy) in the Netherlands is:

17 Zuid-Holland Stroopwafels_0019.jpeg
Stroopwafels.

Basically 2 thin slices of a cookie with (warm) caramel in between...

You can often also get these fresh on markets or fairs..

Most people leave the cookie on their hot coffee for a few minutes to warm them up a bit!

Some of the best?…. Momma makes theses eve so often ?

That looks really nice!
It's a bummer we don't have that many influences from Mexico here.

Only the classic bean and tortilla dishes :(

I would love to try (watch me butcher this..) Mole some day...

It's some type of stew with cacao in it.. right?
It is chocolate based. Just a dash.

Russian breakfast.
Very common ingredient is "blinchiki" - pancakes with soft cheese or jam, also cookies, sour cream, sausages, butter, caviar, different berries. And tea, lots of tea.

Is that some type of caviar on the left

This glorious heart attack of a poutine.
I would really love to try Poutine just once...

Poutine is, in its simplest form, fries, gravy and cheese curds, it HAS TO BE CURDS THO. You can also try poutine sauce, I prefer gravy, or something else, depending on where you are, you may find it in international even.

Yeah i suppose there will be places offering it,
On the other side it probably wouldn't be really good health wise :D

Yes, it is.
But it's not necessary, red and black caviar is for the rich people. Ordinary (non-expensive) caviar also works.

Sorry for the overused Spanish Paella topic but...

Well done is great, basically dry rice with shellfish, vegetables, maybe meat, poultry and what not.

Everyone has his own recipe and anyone else is nice but wrong, specially if you ate from Valencia ?

You *never* stir it, should not get stuck together, and the blackened rice on the bottom is torally fine. Has to be eaten right away. If you ever come to Spain, there is paella everywhere but keep the hell away from the tourist restaurant shit!!!

I think that is the first thing I ate when I set my feet in The Netherlands ?. Of course I was going with a coworker that knew it and pointed me to them at first.

Ok, less tourist orientated...

Botillo del Bierzo
1024_2000.jpg

As many old recipes, this was intended to use leftovers. Basically, when you killed a pig and get all the "good" portions, you get the bone pieces, tail tips, etc, stuff it in the pig stomach with local pimiento powder and species and that is botillo.

Very strong taste. Recipe is basically boiling it with chorizo, potatoes and cabbage. Eat the vegetables, suck and eat any meat you find.

The ones sold nowadays, there is some meat left in the bones, fortunatelly ?

Traditional South African biltong.. Extremely popular and a great alternative to beef jerky..
Oh, Yeeeesss!!
I loved those, specially the dry ones made of game meat. I spent my remaining local cash in the airport to the guy selling biltong snack bags and took them away.

Back here, I got some powder stuff and made some at home. Not bad, but I remember neighbor dog grabbing one of the drying pieces and chomped it before I could stop her. Half dry it was not that big, but it was over a pound, possibly two of fresh meat. Really scared me if she would be ok or I had killed her. Was ok and looking for more, though

Wait, isn't that raw? Kinda like sushi?
Yeah you are right, it's just the fillet of a herring.

We eat it with dices onions and some with pickles.

You can get it cut to smaller pieces or just in one piece, so you can bite it while holding it by the tail.

There are already so many delicious things coming by!

Really makes me want to try some!

Maybe i need to look up some recipes from time to time! ?

One of the things you will see alot in the Netherlands during winter!

23019-apetito-assortiment-Stamppot-enzo.jpg
Is stamppot, a vegetable mash or hotchpotch.

A mix of vegetables mixed with mashed potatoes (for the love of god, don't use insta mash) and gravy.

The most common here are:

-kale with bacon bits and smoked sausage.
-Endive with bacon bits and a sausage
- Carrots and onions (we call it hutspot) with stewed meat.
