Guys, my girl is in heat. You might be saying to yourself, "Oh, congratulations!! Blow one out for me!"

NO!!

I wish it worked that way... See, she swells up and I can't fit inside anymore when she's in heat, so Im in the dog house.

Whole process is about 3 weeks before back to normal, and its only 1 so far! This sucks...

That's too bad. I heard they swell too much sometimes.
But at least you can give a mighty licking after the initial blood discharge is off.

I do have minor concerns about pyometria dueing heat play because Ive heard they are more likely to contract during heat. My first love was a friend of mines dog and she prematurely passed away. She kept getting UTIs and had to be spayed around 5 years old. She got spayed but there was some complication that they couldnt find out after the fact, but she just passed away one night about two weeks after the surgery. Ever since then Ive had this unfounded sense of guilt thinking that I somehow caused her death and it was pyometria, but its totally unfounded and they couldnt figure out why she passed. It was because of loving her though that I made the decision to commit and get my own.

So I guess its better that things are the way they are. I dont increase the risk and i dont have to worry, i just have to bide my time instead.

I'm sorry to hear that. But don't feel bad, it could have been a lot of reasons why she had those complications after the surgery.

Also I think I read that the risk is doing it after the heat, in the next 15/20 days. But unfortunately we can't ask the vets about that.
