Does anyone still use USENET for videos and photos. Many years ago it was the best place to find files and info. If so any recommendations?
I find most sites degrade the quality to save on bandwidth so I was hoping 1st generation quality might exist elsewhere like USENET where retention is the issue not size.Do you honestly think there is some secret underground where "great" content that doesn't make EVERY tube site is circulated? If something is being circulated between strangers it's being done everywhere. The only way you're going to find different is through tight groups of close well known TRUSTED individuals.
No. You're about 20 years too late for that.Does anyone still use USENET for videos and photos. Many years ago it was the best place to find files and info. If so any recommendations?
I wasn't to late as I was on USENET before the World Wide Web was a thing. I think my earliest post dates back to '87 which I can still find in the USENET archives. I was just curious if I should purchase an USENET feed to see what groups are carried and retention.No. You're about 20 years too late for that
True about file size as the videos back in the day were not very high resolution. I remember joining endless split files and hoping one wasn't missed. Thanks for your insight. Save me a few bucks to sign up an find it wasn't worth it.Usenet was basically folded into google groups, who censors out all the good ones. I am sure there is some real 'usenet' out there but it's only attended by the ultra-nerds. It was basically spammed to death 20+ years ago. Google also bought Dejanews, the really good usenet archive, and censored the crap out of it Peer-to-Peer file sharing replaced it. With the growing file sizes, usenet was near useless for file sharing anyway.
