Injury to the testicle

Imknotgay

Tourist
Can anybody help me?

I noticed that my boy was licking himself more than usual and when I checked, he has a dime size hole in his scrotom.

I drove halfway to the vet before I remembered that today is Saturday and the vet isn't open till monday.

I put some antibiotic ointment in the hole and covered it with a bandaid.

Has anybody seen anything like this before?
I'm thinking it might be a spider bite but I dont know.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Your post is a few days old, so I think you have probably been to the vet already unless it quickly healed by itself. Could you share with us how this developed?

Well I wasn't able to take him to the get untill after the weekend, and by that time it had already scabbed up.
I decided not to take him to the get because the worst of it was already over.
Plus the last time I took him for vaccinations, I got a 5 minute lecture about how I should get him neutured because it is healthier for dogs and makes them happier.
-_-

This is what the injury looks like now:

Keep it clean. And cone his head if he licks. You don’t want the scab coming off to create a fresh wound again

Dogs are pretty tough and can get over most flesh injuries themselves. As long as it doesn't develope a lot of puss and the surrounding tissue doesn't get bright red, then it will probably heal on its own.
Definitely looks like a necrotic spider bite initially.

Hey, great news that it is improving! :)

From my experience it could happen that the upper skin layer of the whole scrotum "sheds" during the process of healing. The skin in your new photo looks a bit like it already. Don't worry about this as long as the actual wound is good.

It's probably a cultural thing.
Other parts of the world see this very differently.
Here's an article about Norway:

I've got to add a little warning here. Male dogs can hurt their testicles with the brim of a cone. That is how my dog injured his scrotum, when he had to wear a cone after a surgery. He wanted to lick his butt when I didn't pay attention and scratched his scrotum quite badly. That cone was supplied by the animal hospital. You'd think they would have safe ones.

They do now. Pet smart has one with a protective border around the neck.
