I tasted peanut butter

I've never had eat peanut butter before. That is, the real thing that americans also eat. Here in europe, chocolate and hazelnut sweet creams are the most common (Nutella etc), the store shelves are full of them, there is maybe 1 peanut butters.
This afternoon I saw it on the store shelf and remembered ZV and peanut butter. So I bought one and tasted it.
It doesn't taste good. I thought it would be a sweet, flavored cream, like the choco cream, but it tastes 100% like peanuts available in a bag, which I put a handful in my mouth and chew. It's just spread on bread.
Chocolate and sweet hazelnut creams are much tastier.

Yea, I tried it multible times, I tried it raw, and with different kind of jams. It's always disgusting stuff, because the peanut taste just overwhelms any other taste. It just makes anything taste worse than without it.

I've got the exact opposite taste. For me, putting jam or anything sweet on a peanut butter sandwich ruins the peanuty goodness. Although outside of sandwiches, I don't mind peanut butter and chocolate combos.

probably a european thing... i grew up on hazelnut stuff like nutella too and never quite "got" what the deal is with peanut butter. same went for maple syrup when i got around to try it.

I've never tasted maple syrup before. If I see it in a store, I will buy it.

there are many kinds of peanut butter, I get the smooth creamy type, it is sweet
It's described as creamy and sweet, 90% peanut butter, 10% sugar and palm oil.
And... I don't find it sweet.

I tried it with honey, so it's better. However the peanut flavor is still very strong and the texture is sticky.
Nutella is a soft cream.

If you do, make sure you get REAL 100% authentic maple syrup, and not any of that artificial stuff. It costs a little more, but it's twice as good as the artificial stuff.

So, I'm curious what brand you purchased and was it a brand that was made in your country or the US? Or were you in the US when you bought it? All of these can make a difference. Especially if you somehow bought "all natural" peanut butter. Now that's gross.

No. No pineapple on pizza. No. No.

I can totally understand not liking peanut butter if sweet spreads are what you're used to. It's like that one time I took a drink from my glass of milk, and nearly spit it up when a sharp acid taste hit my mouth. I was thinking, "OMG, did this milk turn?!"

...turns out it was orange juice. :gsd_laughing: Expectations. If you're thinking it should be sweet and it's not, that can make a big difference.

That's actually a common thing I hear from Europeans it's honestly cheaper to get peanut butter here. That and it's a good source of protein for broke people it's somewhat sweet it comes in different textures there's the chunky version and the smooth version. Goes well with custard, jams, jellys, and chocolate. There's even recipes to make pie out of it. Peanut butter pie ? one of my favorite desserts honestly.
