I’d like to share , perhaps not the universal answer for everyone, but my personal reason and opinion. First of all I think puppies and real babies have the same effect on us, first we develop strong feelings of love , affection, mothers love and so on, he is your dog , your baby, and you feel a very strong bond of attachment, then years pass, but your feelings changes too as you start to see your little boy changing into a adult stronger male handsome Alpha, he starts to feel more and more like the man in the pack, the protector. I myself can feel submissive towards strong dominant male dogs. You live and share your life together, and gradually become more partners than just Pet and owner. So investing time and love is so much worth it. Hope it makes some sense
