help/advice for me & my animal partner, father wants to backyard breed her

Please for the love of god or whatever is out there. I need peoples advice on how I can back out of this shit idea my father has.

First of all, regardless of your view on poly relationships, backyard breeding is a TERRIBLE idea. So this would be bad anyways.

My father has brought up he wants her to “be a mother” atleast twice. It broke my heart, she is my new partner and it’s very very betraying to hear this.. of course he doesn’t know she is and of course it’s not my partners fault as she can’t know right now. But this is really hurting me, and I want to know how to tell him no, without pointing to the fact that she’s my partner. I am 18 so my dad controls a lot still. Please help..

If it's your dad's dog there's not much you can do, besides pointing out how despicable it is to treat an animal and family member as an income source. Ask him if he'd breed his daughter to sell the offspring.

Beyond that you could research any local breeding laws and see if there's any legality of it you can bring to his attention.

Thanks, She is my dog but he payed for it, so it’s kinda shared but I take most responsibility, at the moment I’m not financially really, but I will soon . More like a family situation. ID have to take care of offspring which I won’t if there’s any so that’s a point I could bring up because my dad wouldn’t since I’m the one who is the caretaker

I also have college so it’s nowhere near viable I have a dog AND cat no way!

Given what you've said in the rest of the thread, I thnk your best option is to insist that if he wants to do this, that it has to be done right. Tell him you don't want to make more low quality puppies to spread bad genetics, so you want to have her evaluated...which would make the puppies more valuable. Insist on OFA testing, insist on genetic testing, insist on a screening with your vet....and if you have to, tell the vet your dad wants to breed her and make shitty puppies and that you'd appreciate the vet state that she's unfit. They might not, but I think a responsible vet may well be willing to tell a white lie to prevent more shitty puppies from being created

I am betting the mere cost of OFA screening will be enough to make him change his mind.


And sorry for implying that she'd make shitty puppies, I'm trying to set the tone for you, not insult her. I am sure she's amazing.

Ok so she's registered in your name or your father's cause that might make all the difference if she is under your name legally he can't do anything of the sorts without your consent. I'm going off of research I did in pet ownership in various state laws. If he tries to have her bread and she is registered under your name you can sue him don't know if that's the right solution but I'd nothing else works I'd bring that to the table.

Such advice should be avoided by far, because in the end it will be that they will talk you into neutering as well. And then the sex is over...

Tell him that this is your dog and you don't allow him to mate, because you don't want to expose him to the difficulties of mating, pregnancy, calving, and nursing. Anyway, there can indeed be complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
You don't want puppies without papers and show results. etc. You pay him the value of the dog as soon as you have a job.

By the way, if your father bought the dog and your father also buys the dog food, then the situation is difficult...
I have a friend who was in the same situation a while ago. Unfortunately, he had to give in to his father's terror, the dog gave birth twice. It was difficult for him, but he got over it, I tried to help him with words.

Your father sounds like a dick. Just saying. I would just tell him no. If it's your dog and you take care of her regardless of who paid for her then it should be your decision. My question is who does she follow, listen to, sleep with at night? If it's you then it sounds like she's yours and you make that call. If your father says otherwise tell him to get fucked. *politely*
