Good video editing software suggestions

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a free video editing software. I need to mute some audio and cut out one scene of some of my personal content… then I can share it with all of you.

If you have windows 10, Video Editor is built into windows and can easily mute audio and trim sections out of a clip. Most smartphones have a built in editor that can do this too.
