Good Pet Insurance... or at least acceptable...

Has anyone used a specific provider for their pet insurance? I can only seem to find negative reviews, which is understandable. Disgruntled patrons love to leave reviews...

But has anyone had a good experience with their insurance provider, and would suggest using them?

best,
Bap.

It's probably worth saying which country you're from :gsd_happysmile:
But yeah I always check the reviews to see if they actually pay out, most seem to be con artists, luckily I've never had to claim.

That's all insurance companies.

Growing up my dad had a good friend who owned a car insurance company that specialized in classic cars. Straight from his mouth "all insurance companies follow the three D's when they receive a claim: Deny Deny Delay". They will always deny your first claim then keep delaying your appeals until you give up and go away without them having to pay out.

Yet another reason this bullshit capitalist society we live in is a total load of shit.

Yep I had a friend who worked in claims, he told me some crazy stories for home insurance. Like trying to figure out the date of newspaper or magazine in the background to prove the photos were older. Or using Facebook to prove someone lived at a different property.

In the UK some companies have started advertising their payout rate now as a selling point, with one claiming 98% of claims are payout out to. Hopefully things might start changing.

I have a saving account exclusively for dog health and automatically transfer money to it every month. It's my personal pet insurance and guaranteed to pay out when my dog needs it. I would recommend this.

Downsides to be aware of:
  • Don't do this if you lack the self-control to keep the money untouched until your critters need it.
  • It will take some time until you have saved enough money for very expensive treatments.
  • In some countries you may not get any social welfare benefit while you still have a certain amount of money on a bank account, so you would be forced to live from what you saved for your dog. It would be advisable to check the legal situation where you live, in case there is a risk that you could become unemployed and need social welfare benefit.
  • May not be advisable in countries with huge inflation.
Upsides:
  • All the money is reserved for your animal friends. None goes to share holders, managers, employees.
  • Guaranteed and immediate pay out.
  • If you have saved a notable sum, you can reduce or even stop your monthly contributions.
  • You make the rules. No small print.
