Going to the Vet

Anyone ever wonder if the vet is suspicious and/or had something said to them?
I keep getting hounded about getting spayed and neutering.

I hope they aren't trying to spay or neuter you! ?

In all seriousness, I highly doubt that a vet would be suspicious if you decide to keep your dog intact. I highly doubt their line of reasoning would be, "Huh, this dude wants to keep their dog intact. Therefore he MUST be having sex with his pet." They'd more than likely chalk it up to you being, what they would consider, "An irresponsible pet owner" and not much more. ((Unless, your dog shows physical signs of sexual trauma. In that case you'd deserve to lose access to your animal in the first place!))

I've only had to visit two vet clinics so far. The first didn't even ask. They automatically assumed that my newfie girl was spayed. I chuckled a bit when her paperwork said "spayed female." The second vet simply asked is she was or was not. When I told them she was not, that was the end of their questioning about the matter.

Some vets will push it though, I've only been lucky so far. If they do question you I'd research the negative side effects of S&N and list that as the reason you want to keep them intact.

Well thats good to hear though, its something that has always crossed my mind. I have gotten a few weird looks in the past when not wanting to do it.

I usually try to go twice a year for check ups and the such. I want to catch any problems that may come up as soon as possible as she is starting to get up there in age and I worry. I love her so much words dont quite explain ya know, she really is the sweetest kindest sole ive meet and I feel like they can see right through that lol

I'd say the weird looks are probably just from judgment. If that is the case... then let them judge. It sounds like you're certainly doing what's best for you and your girl.

I'll probably start doing biannual checkups for my girls once they reach the age of 6 for safety precautions relating to health, it's definitely good that you do so. My girls are only 2 and 3, so they are still relativity still young. Although, my newfie already has a couple of minor health problems, so I might start doing biannual checkups sooner with her.

Yepperoo! Dogs are good at taking a dagger of love and kindness and piercing it directly through our hearts! Lol. Sex with my girl is fun and all, and I'm happy to do so as long as she's happy. But nothing can ever compare to the unquestionable love and kindness a dog will supply you with. Love and dedication will always be the number one reason why I'll form a bond with a canine.

My newfie girl is also a sweet soul as well. She loves other dogs and people, is loving and very loyal to me, is very kind and easy going, and despite being 115lbs she really is a gentle giant. I'm lucky to have her in my life. My other girl is a wild little spaz that likes to get on my nerves sometimes, but I love her just the same! ?

I wonder though whether a vet might find out that your dog has a stretched vagina or something like that.

It's unlikely. You might be placed in a little bit of hot water if they are specifically doing a vaginal exam. But female canines will vary wildly from one another. Sometimes girls are so tight you can hardly slip a finger in her. Other canine girls are just naturally wider without any stretching taking place, and two fingers can slip in and out with ease. My girl is an XL sized dog so no stretching is really needed with her to begin with. She's just naturally wide.

Fortune cookie shapes will also vary from girl to girl. I have sex with my girl every other day, but despite that, her cookie is repetitively small looking compared to her overall size when out of heat.

I have wondered this myself.. but then I think about how big a male shep is and thats a whole lot bigger than me :ROFLMAO:
But you can not exactly say that your female dog had sex with a male dog and there just are not any puppies. It usually does not work like that.

I cant believe she is 8 already. I worry about it much, dont really know if I could handle the day I loose her.. It was incredibly hard loosing her father and even though its been years now, I still get very emotional over it. Totally blind sided me.. he was 11 going on 12, had him since he was just a few months old. Went in for a regular bi annual check ups. Blood work came back really good, everything checked out really good. Even the vet told me that was the healthiest old GSD he has ever seen. He very much acted and looked like a 4 to 5 year old shep.. Even with his age and the avg life for a shep, I thought I had years before I had to face anything since he always get such a stellar heath report. He never had any health problems at all.. 4 months later, his legs started to swell, took him in and found his heart was failing. I tried everything, specialist's and thousands of dollars and could not save his life. I really hope I can catch stuff sooner this time.

No. My boys visit the vet every year for shots and a check up and the vet has never asked if I want them neutered. One is a pure-bred and it would be a dumb question anyway, the other is from a sheepdog line, we need the blood-stock.

I don't think it even crosses the vet's mind that the boys are anything more than "pets".

My boy was a pure blood shep as well and they knew that. Maybe its cause live in a big city. not sure really.

But it has crossed my mind if they ever wonder about me, or any other zoo that goes in.

It may be that lots of people take on a pure-bred and don't realise the pressures they face. Then they go back to the vet and ask for neutering. I doubt the vet thinks you're a zoo, we're not that common.

ya know, I never thought of it that way lol
I could see others having a hard time dealing with that
