Fighting Game Community

Posted this in the wrong thread area so reposting in the more appropriate one... :

I know it's a bit weird to bring this up on a place like here but thought I'd try as it'd be a nice way to connect to similar peeps. That said, I don't really see any decently related posts via searching to add dialogue to either so figured I'd make a new post. Well, I did find a few groups but still need to hit that 10 post requirement... bahaha. All that said, I am hoping for some good conversation and new connections c:

I've recently gotten back into BlazBlue this last month due to them adding in Rollback Netcode and that has brought a breath of fresh air into the game. I thought I'd might as well and make a post on the various groups here to engage on some conversation as well ask some general questions:

When did you start playing fighting games?
Do you play various types or just one series/entry?
Do you play casually or competitively?
For those that don't but have interest; what keeps you from trying?

Personally, I started playing when I was kid thanks to my brother getting Guilty Gear XX and letting me play with him. I played Baiken (loved her blocking attacks) and fell in love with the series since. I definitely wasn't any good but was at least having a lot of fun. Next to that, I didn't really play much until I grew older and picked up MvC2 when it was re-released on the PS3. I played it somewhat seriously but was still very casual. It wasn't until the time I picked up BlazBlue Calamity Trigger (bought it right before Continuum Shift came out, so late into that games life) I really started getting into the scene.

After I had picked up BlazBlue Calamity Trigger I eventually got around to buying a fighting stick to use. From there I've mainly stuck to BlazBlue as well as most of the games Arcsys puts out (Guilty Gear, Persona 4 Arena/Ultimax). I've tried messing with Melty Blood (old and new) but can never really dig too far into it. I put a lot of hours into Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R (what a mouthful) but only a few into Xrd Rev 2 (waited until Baiken came out) and am currently trying my hand at Strive. I also put a decent amount into Persona 4 Arena as well but not much (if at all) into Persona 4 Ultimax; the chicken blocking in that game made me annoyed as well as the fact my main, Elizabeth, had the worst DP. I accept the fact she's a low tier character (actually think the lowest?) but it's annoying that the top tier characters literally can lock you in until death with no ability to do anything... Last two I tried hard to get into but just couldn't were Under Night In-Birth and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. UNIB was a good game but I just never got into it for some odd reason. BBTAG was a disappointment to me due to the fact wasn't really BlazBlue and was just Ruby and friends with a very different system. I'm not saying it's a bad game by any means, just not my cup of tea but marketed as a BlazBlue game (which it heavily isn't, mechanic speaking).

Beyond all that, I'm currently playing BlazBlue Central Fiction with my main as Hakumen and Susano. I know Sussy is bullshit but I honestly enjoy the Magatama lock system/Drive he has and makes him a lot of fun. I picked up King of Fighter XV as it came out today and my friend wanted me to join himi so I'll be giving a try at that later today.

That's all the games I play competitively but I do enjoy Smash as well casually. I love my boy Shulk and his Monado system as well as Cloud. I used to frequent the game decently but haven't touched it now in over two years?

How about all of you? Are you playing any fighting games currently? Are you planning to or excited for an upcoming one?

I think the first real fighting game I played was Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. Its always been one of my favorite genres of games.I haven't had a lot of time to play games in the last year but I'm excited for SF6 and want to play the new SamSho and KoF.
My best games were probably Melty Blood and SF4. I got good enough to go toe to toe with the person in my friend group who was always the best at fighters, and played in a couple SF4 tournies not going 0 and 2.

My first game is probably Sf2 turbo on the sega gensis. I normally play various type of fighting Games. I play very casually.

The first fighting game I ever played was Tekken on the PS1 and I’ve played every single one to date. My favorite is the 1st Tekken Tag. I play a lot of other fighting games including Street Fighter, Injustice, Soul Caliber and so on. I’m stoked about Street Fighter 6 and plan on playing it with my BF before he gets too good at it. I’ve played in tournaments for fun to see how far I go, this man plays and wins crazy matches.

These days i mostly play third strike on fightcade, which is absolutely unmatched in terms of online matchmaking for emulated arcade games

crowded lobbies for the popular titles like 3rd strike, mvc2, jojo, but even less popular games like vampire savior or garou mark of the wolves will have 10 or 15 people chilling in the lobbies most times of day

Eee, I love fighting games. I'm not very good at them at all and there's a bunch of terminology that goes over my head, but I think they're fun.

When I was ten, a friend of my stepfather gave me a bunch of DS games that his son didn't want anymore. Among these was a dinky Naruto fighting game and one with Marvel Comics characters. With how that gave me the oppurtunity to play Pokémon long term for the first time and introduced me to Mega Man those second hand DS games were instrumental in shaping me into who I am.

But fighting games, that's what this is about! Found out about Blazblue shortly before Chronophantasma was realeasing and just kinda fell in love with all the flashy anime rubbish and also the story being a bit of a mess. Love a good mess and I've got an appreciation for time loops.
Blazblue was my gateway into the rest of the genre. I had known about Guilty Gear for a long time before this but only ever listened to the music, my passing interest in the Fate franchise furthered the interest in Melty Blood that I already had as did Eltnum being on the roster for Under Night In Birth.

So when I'm in a physics class, not only a fan of fighting games but someone who was following RWBY almost from the start, Cross Tag Battle's announcement had me even less able to focus on the lesson than I already was with it including Blazblue and Under Night as well. That game is probably the biggest reason that I got into Persona as a whole. One of my friends is a long time Persona fan and recently bought the port if Arena Ultimax, so a lot of my time spent over there a few months ago was me playing that.

I startep playing Guilty Gear XX while I still lived with my family, although I can't really do that anymore, so recent news had me sitting pretty. My two favourite characters to use were Testament and Bridget. So you can imagine how happy I was to see Testament with their new design and Bridget with her yo-yo that inspired me to try and learn a few tricks when I was young (and akso her arcade mode, I guess, but that's not the important thing, right? /j)

I played Soul Caliber IV at some point when I was young. My uncle bought it for himself, but I'm not sure if that was as a fan of the series or because of the Star Wars inclusions. My friends never wanted to play it with me, though, since they new even less about what was going on in the game than me.

And a couple of months back myself and a friend of mine went to some place that had a PS3 Tekken game. Neither of us knew how to play other than that quarter-circles weren't a thing. I'm entirely sure the only times I beat him were when I used long reaching command normals and accidentally throw-countered.

lol lookup tekken move lists if you want to have your mind blown

similar to rekkas in streetfighter (input one move, then input other moves you can only input while in the animation of move 1) but on crack, in tekken moves will often change your stance, ie laying on the ground, with your back to your opponent, in a slow moving state, etc. each of those states will have their own specific moves completely separate from your neutral moves.

the controls themselves are even better imo, with the attack buttons corresponding specifically to your left arm and right arm and left leg and right leg which will throw out either high, mid or low attacks depending on the specific attacks that preceded them in a combo. this means no light punch light punch medium crouching kick shoryukens, and instead whatever tf this is on kings movelist wiki:
