Does your dog's dick stay out of the sheath hours after sex?

After I have sex with my dog, his dick quickly goes from like, 100% engorged to like 5%, but then stays at 5% for a very long time, which is enough for the head of his penis to stay out.

Are all dogs like this, or is this something unique to mine?

Looks quite "unique" to me.

If it is only the tip it should not be a big problem, but anyway check him.
With long haired breeds it sometimes happens hair sticks to the flesh abd keeps sheath retracted.

Also make sure it is not too dry while it is out.

In any case, you may open the tip ot the sheath pulling with your fingers, pust it back a little, then try to slide it completely. If it looks like "stuck" it is possibly either dry or the hair.

This is a problem - and a potentially serious (possibly even life-threatening if not dealt with) one. Usually the diagnosis will read "phimosis". If he doesn't have a good bit of bulk to his knot that's keeping him from retracting, he needs looking at closer to figure out why, and MAY need a visit to the vet. As an expedient measure, if he'll permit you to handle his unit, you can attempt to slide him back inside, or apply a cool, wet cloth to keep the penis moist until he can get it back inside. Move gentle and careful - he's PROBABLY at least tender, if not outright hurting. Use LOTS of water to keep him moist. A water-based lube MAY assist, but just plain lukewarm-to-coolish water is the better initial choice until you get vet advice otherwise.

Perhaps it's uncomfortable for him having the tip of his dick out of the sheath for a couple of hours, but life threatening?

I will look closer into this tho. I thought that it was natural and benign for him to have part of his dick out for some time after sex, but it seems that it isn't.

"Life threatening" applies when he's out long enough that the penis starts to crack and bleed from drying out - You may or may not be aware that a dog can hemorrhage to death from a penis injury - there' a LOT of blood flow there...

Um.
I think we are talking two different issues.
One is when the sheath is stuck *behind* the knot. This is actually a severe issuecas UR20Z describes and you'd better solve it asap.

But, if I read correctly the OP, in his case only the tip of the penis is protruding from the sheath. This should not be a serious issue. Still, it is easy to solve. Just store well after usage.

Ya, if it's "just the tip" (Why do I suddenly have to fight the urge to snicker like a kid that just heard somebody yell "boobies!" in the lunchroom?) it ain't such a big deal. I'll take "Unclear Description" for $200, Alex...

Even so, inability to get the penis back into the sheath fairly soon after sex (whtehre or not the species line has been crossed) is still a cause for concern... "why isn't it working as it should?", if nothing else. Look for a "hair ring" or similar constriction that may be preventing him from retracting completely - or the fairly common "tip of the sheath turned inside out" (sorta like the sleeves of your long-sleeved sweatshirt might do when you're trying to pull it off) syndrome that usually resolves itself during post-sex cleanup licking.

Whatever the exact cause (if any) is found to be, this is definitely at least a "something's not right" sort of thing, and if it happens regularly, should be investigated.

Sounded easier than saying "cranial end of the reproction intromisory appendage" but I can go less kiddish with "showing the lipstick" ??

Yes. Hours seem far too long time for him to take care of it by himself. No sign of knot inside all that time?
