Do you resemble your animal companion or do they resemble you.

So while I was in the shower tonight my strange brain posed a question: If people are supposed to take after their animals, do we subconsciously like or are attracted to animals that look a bit like us, such as somebody with naturally curly hair liking one of the oodle breeds or someone with long straight hair being fond of retrievers.

Any thoughts?
Note: No pictures of you please (normal safety rules apply) a picture of your companion if you like, and just a short description of what trait you share with them I think is ok though.

Why yes! I do happen to look like a big chocolate Newfoundland dog. Put us next to each other and the similarities are uncanny! Our barks even sound the same!

Nah, but in reality we look nothing alike. I'm pale while she's dark brown. My face is smashed in like a pug, while her snoot is big and somewhat droopy. I do have a bit of a gut, not too big, while she's very wide but otherwise thin if you look at her from underneath. I will say that I can muster a nice deep bark like hers. It's always funny to see the look on my two doggy girls faces. They're like, "Hey! You aren't supposed to make that noise you know??"

It must be your accent, your probably saying something rude to them in Doglish.

There's a meme floating around from the 60's with celebrity dog/owner lookalikes. I remember seeing William Conrad with his bulldog on an episode of "Jake and the Fatman". I still chuckle to this day over that one :ROFLMAO:

I would say no to both looks and personality...

Granted there are some dogs who are more like me than others but I actually feel I connect more to introvert dogs. The dogs who are shy or weary...the dogs who give me the opportunity to break through their wall and truly connect to them.... making that progress and building that bond makes me so happy and causes me to blush like crazy lol.

In general I love all dogs though.

When it comes to looks shit I wish I looked half as beautiful and magestic and sexy as dogs do XD

That one was *WAY* too good, even if it WAS cast specifically as comedy :)

Well both me and my boy are brown with brown eyes. Our hair type is nothing alike though.

Well, he's a horse, so, no, but thanks for asking a good question on a good thread.

Is this a trick question?
No no... Where does that white rabbit go when put in a hat, that is a trick question.

I phrased the question symmetrically in case people approached it from the other side. Some people might say their dog looks like them, suggesting the human is the original and it is the dog that is copying the look. While other would see the situation as opposite, their own look resembled that of their dog who was the original and the human just happened to look the same. If neither statement is true, well that's just a pity. :gsd_laughing: I would love to be as good looking as my dog.

Didn't the mythbusters do this once? Pretty sure they took pictures of owners and their dogs and tried to see if they could match them up, they only got a few right.
