Do ignores work like a block button?

Can you block member’s replies/is there an ignore button?
On half of the general discussion threads I open, I always see someone (usually not new people, surprising) just being rude. Can I block these members somehow, so I don’t see their replies? I see there’s an ignore feature, but it sounds like that doesn’t have the intended effect.

You can't see his comments and that's it. You don't even see his quotes, but only if they quoted well. If the user's name is removed from the quote, it will be visible.
Unfortunately, this function is best done by Facebook, by banning the user, you can't see him and he can't see you, it's two-way. This prevents troll comments from your angry people.
The problem with the ignore function is that it is one-way. Your angry person sees your comment and can write a troll response to it, meanwhile you don't see because you ignored it.
Telegram is even worse, because there you can only block PM/DM messages, you can still see the comments of blocked members in groups, and this function doesn't work with 3rd party clients either (Telegram developers eliminated it).
