Did anyone start out of a sense of pity or responsibility?

Obviously, most people who are active start because of an attraction to their animal and/or plain old horniness. But did anyone start because they wanted to help their animal out as the primary reason?

Not for me. I did see it as mutually beneficial though since we were both getting pleasure

I'm not sure pity applies; I'm not particularly interested in male dogs, but when he comes around hinting that he wants something I tend to give him a handjob. No harm to me and he really enjoys it, so I do that for him.
