Danish Animal Ethics Council's statement on human sexual intercourse with animals (2006)

ayyyyy

Tourist
I was looking through the "Zoophilia" article on Wikipedia because I recalled having seen a very interesting paper on the topic from a respected institution in Denmark cited on the page somewhere a long time ago. I scoured the article for a link to no avail. Eventually I found an old version of the page that still had the link through the revision history. Fun fact: there used to be "arguments for" and "arguments against" sections within the article.

Anyway, the paper is called "Statement on human sexual intercourse with animals" and comes from Denmark's Animal Ethics Council. It was written in 2006 as a response to a request from the Ministry of Justice when a law against bestiality was being considered. The "TLDR" is that the Animal Ethics Council did not find any reason to introduce a ban on bestiality, because existing animal welfare legislation was sufficient, and because of evidence that sexual intercourse can be an enjoyable experience for human and animal alike.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the paper. They present some good arguments in favor of bestiality. It is also a rare example of a governmental institution showing support for zoophiles.

From what I can tell, it did actually serve to prevent the legislation against bestiality from being passed in Denmark, at least for nearly a decade (9 years), until 2015 when it was unfortunately banned, according to a Danish news website. So all in all, bestiality was legal in Denmark from 1930 (as of the enactment of the Civil Penal Code of 1930) to 2015, which was a period of 85 years.

The paper was written in Danish and I could not find an English translation, so I put it through Google Translate. The machine-translated version of the document is attached to this post, if you want to read it. I also attached an English summary I put together to help me organize my thoughts while reading it (mostly just important excerpts from the paper), if you'd rather read that.

The original paper (in Danish) can be found here.

I'm genuinely upset that moderators removed the "Arguments For/Against" sections from the Zoophilia article on Wikipedia. It's very obvious they did it because the "For" arguments were much stronger.

Thankfully, the Zoophilia Wiki article on Zoophilia still has the "For/Against" sections.
