Childhood Dog recently passed :((((

A couple days ago, I was on a date with my boyfriend and we went to my parents house just to meet my parents for the first time and watch some horror movies together in the home theater my parents have. I won’t share her name or what she looked like but when we arrived at my parents we only found one of the 2 dogs they had. I didn’t think anything of it, just assumed that she was off running around somewhere or was downstairs with my stepdad. After finishing one of our movies me and my boyfriend went on a walk of the property, but when we came to the front yard we discovered my mom and stepdad crying over her dead body. She had no injuries so we just assumed she died of a heart attack or something while running about the property. If that’s what happened I am truly happy she died doing something that made her happy. I couldn’t bear seeing her cold, lifeless body with bugs all over her and so me and my boyfriend went and watched I Spit on Your Grave(fucked up film but a very interesting watch btw) and then I said one last goodbye and we left. I’ll never ever see her again. She was a doberman, a rare color of the breed too. She was such a sweetheart but now that she’s really gone it’s just like… man, i can’t believe she just died. No fanfare, no warning like with the dogs we had before her, my stepdad just discovered her body. One things for sure though, I doubt my boyfriend will ever forget how he met my family

I am so sorry for that loss. There is nothing that hurts the way losing an animal companion hurts. May you find peace, and grieve the way you need to.

I’ll be alright, I didn’t see her nearly as much as I used to after moving out and doing adult stuff, but I would be lying if I said that going to my parents is gonna feel a lot quieter now that she’s gone. We got her when I was like 16 though, back in 2016, so she was getting up there in age and was always getting medical trouble. I’m not really surprised but more shocked it happened so suddenly and that now she’s just gone. Like I said, the other dogs we had went to the vet and they told us what was wrong and we had a bit of time before they passed, but with her it was just like… man she must have passed while me and my boyfriend were watching our horror movie.

No one wants to die doing something they hate, I'm happy to hear she at least was doing what she loved and wanted. I'm sorry for your loss ??

It was just a terrible coincidence with your boyfriend. It must be terrible though. Has he met your family since?
