I Wonder if someone can explain what are the points and what for?
And the difference between terms like settler, tourist, etc.

It's a way profiles on the forum can be 'rated' by their interaction on the page. I think there's a bit that explains the milestones each title corresponds with. The more you post, comment on threads, message, etc, the further up you progress

Dunno about points, but I think the terms like Tourist, Settler, etc, are tied to how many posts you've made.
