Books written by/for zoos

Zooville Settler
I have been wanting to find some books to read recently, and I really wanted to know if there is any good zooey literature to be tapped into.
I already have a copy of Uniquely Dangerous, and I am searching for a place to get Wet Goddess. I also hear that there are some books not zooey per se, but express zoo values, like Animal Farm. There are also some books like The Girl Under the Lion, and a book about a woman going to bed with a bear that I forget the name of, that are blatantly zoosexual.
What about you? Do you know of any zooey books that zoos should read?
Also, the book itself does not have to be expressly zooey; I would also be happy to know about books that just had some zoo producers, such as the novels illustrated by Scott L Ford (a zoo artist).

The book you cant remember about the woman "going to bed with" a bear( not quite how Id describe the actions or scope) is called....."Bear", and was written by the prize-winning mainstream author Marian Engel...excellent, and full of angles for further research. There is also the "Biography" of Mabel Stark. Written as a semi-fictional tale, it tells the story of a depression era Circus Big Cat handler

Sleeping with Dogs, by Brian Sewell, recounts many years of a life with dogs.

The Horseman: Obsessions of a Zoophile by Mark Matthews, a real zoo!

The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? | Edward Albee Society

Dog Love by Marjorie Garber

(I just pulled this list from zebook.club website!)

I wanted to bump this old thread and say I just got done reading "Uniquely Dangerous" today and I think it was a fantastic read. I just spontaneously picked it after fixing up my old Kindle and finding it right here on Zooville! This is the first book I have read for enjoyment in years. A drug smuggling multimillionaire tech entrepreneur world champion stud breeder and animal welfare advocate turned public enemy for being "openly" zoo after being outed? What a story, really though. I found it very sad. For many reasons, zoophiles all too often don't end up with very happy endings. I would highly recommend anyone that ends up reading this post go check that book out. You can download a PDF of it here on Zooville: https://www.zoovilleforum.net/resou...arreen-maloney.69/reviews#resource-review-408. It's not too long a read especially if you find it as captivating as I did.

If I took away nothing else from this story, I am deeply thankful for the relationship I am able to sustain with my dogs here in this fucked up little society. There were moments while reading where I got pangs of relatability that made me have to put it down for a minute so I didn't start crying at work lol. As we all know, it often isn't easy trying to operate in a world seemingly not made for you, one that will no longer value your presence at the mention of a single idea. I highlighted a good bit of text to go look back on at some point, but for now I think I'm going to check out some of the other recommendations here :husky_happysmile:

I'm going to look up some of the ones you mentioned. But as far as George Orwell's animal farm is concerned, I think you would be disappointed in it based on what I glean to be your expectations.

I read Animal Farm about two years ago, and from what I can remember it is something of a political commentary about how when a tyranny is destroyed, it will simply be replaced by a new one. In other words, people who advocate for freedom under oppression may themselves become the dictator when they are given power. Animals on a farm was used as an analogy for a human dictatorship, and different species for different schools of thought.

I can't for the life of me remember why I listed Animal Farm as being a 'zoo' book LOL. Thanks for pointing that out.

Uniquely Dangerous is a book written about a real zoophile, and Wet Goddess was actually written by a zoophile.
