Anyone here feel like their pet is like their child?

I'm especially curious about Zoo only folks. If your dog has puppies, do you feel like those offspring and like your children?

I feel that way about my lizard. I only see her as my child, not my lover, unlike my dog who I can see as a sexual lover.

I do not think comparing or giving animals the properties of human children is a good idea. They most of the time are adult individuals of different species, think in a different way than people and behave differently.
From what I have seen this way of thinking about animals leads to impossible expectations or poor treatment and incorrect comparison of zoo to pedo.

honestly the only time animals can be called children is when they are puppies/kittens but yes you shouldnt treat them as human substitute children for life. they have age just like us.

100%. My brain absolutely treats my dog like my kid. Love that girl so dang much

i talk to my girl like shes a child or little creature BUT... i also treat her like a grown dog. its weird having those "modes" during interactions.

Its not that i treat her like a child, its that i have sort of paternal feelings towards her.

Except part of the domestication and selective breeding process has been to stunt their development. We like them as puppies/kittens so we've forcibly breed them to maintain at least some of their puppy/kitten traits into "adulthood". To a certain extent all domestic breeds are still puppies/kittens compared to their pre-domesticated ancestors.

Yet another example of how we've damaged 1 part of the world to shape it to our ideals.

Right. Its not like i baby her (though i kinda still do, shes young), but that when i look at her my brain goes "thats your offspring, you must cherish her"

Nope, been like this for decades, nothing new there. Just the more bored and/or frustrated with the world and/or myself I am the more likely I am to vent my hatred of humanity.
oh ok i hope im not in that catagory. i try to be the best i can be.

IF you Have a pet, I would certainly Hope that you have the Emotional Maturity to treat them as a member of your family.

If not, then I cannot really say that Pet ownership, would be a good Idea for you.

Just my .02 Cents

My cat is like a part of my family for me, i truly feel its my duty to take care of it, like a younger sibling or something. as for my dog(lover), i feel its a different sort of connection.... this is one of the things that makes zoofilia unlike anything else, in my opinion. its a sort of relationship you can only have with an animal lover.

Speaking of which, I am a solo act aside from my dog.
I just wish he could help with the domestic work from time to time. lol
