Anyone have a Malamute as a partner?

Okami

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately and have decided I want a Malamute as my second dog. Just curious how they are as lovers. Females mainly. From what I’ve read, they tend to attach to one person, and be very loyal and affectionate to that person. They’re also the cutest fucking things I’ve ever seen. Currently have an intact male GSD, although he’s not interested in sex at all. Been wanting a second dog for him for a while. Hoping they’ll tire each other out. If anyone had a malamute as a lover, or even on that’s just a pet, let me know. I have some questions.

Absolutely worth it. They are a ton of maintenance, very intelligent, stubborn as hell, pretty mellow and are totally built for comfort. Cushion for the pushin'. They need real food too. Keep a bowl of dry stuff out all the times as a supplement, but meat and a bit of carbs are where it's at.

Glad to hear it! I have a german shepherd right now so im used to the stubbornness, the shedding, the learning to open doors and drawers. Ive definitely decided on a Malamute as my next dog, and will hopefully be getting one this February. Ive been talking to this lady who had a litter just before Christmas so they wont be ready til Mid February. Beyond excited though. Thanks for the tease by the way

Yeah...once i get my shit straight, I plan on leaving this god forsaken state and moving west. Maybe Arizona or something. Where do you live? And you go any more pics of your Malamute?

I've had them as both ?

I've had a male and female both were family too me
I'd have extremely passionate sex with the female, the male and I have double teamed a few humans now
Otherwise we were a very tight pack and looked after each other
I recommend it but be prepared to puts ton of work into the relationship

Glad to hear it. Your the 4th person who’s told me their female Malamute was very much into sex. So that gets me a little excited haha.

Twice a year with a mal. Problem with heat is they swell shut. Heat isn't the best time to take your girl. Mine LOVES her pussy eaten. Oral is better than raw steak in her mind. Like any sentient being, sometimes you get it and sometimes she says no. Respect the no. You will get alot more yes if you do.

And on another note, don't get a Malamute. Not yet anyway. You are too young and not ready. A mal is a very complex creature, even more so than a husky, which I have two girls. Yes, three intact females, two huskies and a Malamute. All four of us get along very well... anyway... You aren't in a position in life where you can have a girl like that. You are not likely to be stable enough to commit to a four legger for the next 12-15 years..full time. Sex drive is strong, but if you want a mal, you have to commit to the relationship. She will love you forever, stronger, harder, better and give you the best companionship and sex you could possibly imagine. You haven't earned that yet and it will end terribly if you don't level up first. Can't jump from a lawnmower to a Ferrari. Ok...rant over. Be smart kid, work your way up.

I get what you’re saying. I get that youre only looking out for me and my dog. But I’m gonna have to disagree with you. I’m not 18 fresh out of high school trying to get my first dog. I have a well paying job, make plenty of money, got my own place, and this isn’t my first dog. Im more than ready to commit to raising and caring for another dog. I’m not sure what have you the impression that I’m not. But I’m not a kid. If you don’t agree then I’m sorry but you don’t know my life.

Not trying to pick a fight with you guy, don't be in a hurry. Life starts at 30, that's a fact and you will agree. I wish you the best young man and remember, she is your girl. Hopefully you get an alpha. She will give you a good run.

Well no offense intended, but your profile says you are 21.
I understand that a lot of people are just in it for the sex. And they don’t really care about the caring for the dog and training an all that. But that’s not me. My dogs are just afterthoughts. They’re my family. They eat better than me. It isn’t just about the sex for me. It’s about having a loving companion. I’m sorry, i know you’re not trying to pick a fight. But that’s a trigger spot for me. All I’m eve told is you can’t do this, you shouldn’t do that. I just want to love my life and do what I want

That's a good start. Trust me, some random guy on the internet, you are on the right path. And yes, plenty of people are telling you what to do right now... been there too. The worst part about people telling you what to do when you are 21 is wishing you had listened to them when you are 31. Haaaa
Gets even worse when you start creeping up on 40. Holy shit. I just graduated yesterday....20 years ago... Remember this conversation when you hit 38 and try to steer a young man around a couple obstacles...try to remember that people who take the time to hassle you about everything you are doing wrong care about you and want you to succeed, it gets annoying, but just think how many folks ignore the fact that you even exist....

Been wanting a second dog for him for a while. Hoping they’ll tire each other out.

Thought I'd pitch in on this aspect in particular. This is a pretty common attitude when it comes to people looking at getting another dog, but it's a pretty major fallacy. Two dogs will play and get some energy out, but ultimately multiple dogs in a household end up feeding off of each others' energy. They will learn bad habits from each other, and depending on how bonded they are, will end up taking cues from each other as well. It will triple the amount of effort you spend on petcare. Double the walks, double the nail trims, double the baths, double the money on vet care + flea/tick/heartworm preventatives... be sure you're willing to make that commitment to another animal, and do it for yourself, not out of a desire to make owning your current dog easier.

Well of course. I’m more than ready to commit to another dog. I want them to play with eachother not to make owning my dog easier, but because sometimes I don’t have the time to play with my boy as much as he wants. I’d have to be a certain kind of stupid to get a second dog in hopes of making anything easier. I want another dog because there one of the few things I my life that make me happy. And I’m prepared to take on the responsibility and challenges that come with it.
