Anonymity tools and safe practices

Having the right hardwear gives you the ability to disable things physically.

I use axcrypt to also encrypt files. A hard disk encryption tool is also recommended such as BitLocker so that when your data is at rest it is protected also.

Turn your GPS settings off on your cell phone if you take pictures or videos. Metadata is a dead giveaway. I know that we catch insurgents in Iraq and Syria when they post their Twitter videos and don't turn off the location settings lol. Here's a GBU-38, special delivery.

What else can the members of zooville recommend for use to protect yourself?

Use a vpn when browsing the internet (one with a no logs policy).

Use a browser which you can disable JavaScript, webrtc and flash which can all leak your real ip address even if you use a vpn.

For websites like this do not use a unique password, email or username you use on other sites where you have identifying info. If you use a password unique to you it only takes a couple of sites to be hacked and the unique password can be cross referenced. There are actually websites setup to do this.

Don't send pictures to people that are also available on the internet. There are reverse image search websites that images can be uploaded to and the image reverse search to find out if its on the internet anywhere i.e your Instagram account.

Hope this helps.
