Adopt or Buy your Dog?

What do you think about the "buy dogs sale"? (I don't know if I wrote it well) is it ok or isn't it? Should we encourage dog breeding or help empty the kennels? leave your opinions down below.... mine is to adopt above all, but both have advantages and disadvantages

Why not circumvent the kennels, and adopt a dog that someone found and who does not clearly have a home? It requires more searching, but the effect is the same.

I support preserving and protecting historic dog breeds. Some breeds need it more than others. I would buy a dog from a reputable breeder, if it meant preserving a line. Also if the dogs serve a purpose.. hunting, helping disabled people, search and rescue, sniffing drugs, etc. I probably would not give my money to a BYB.. even though all dogs need a home and love. But BYB's hurt the already overpopulated amount of dogs in the USA.

Just remember you can't have sex with a spayed or neutered dog, especially if they were altered as pups.

That's a tough one. I was raised to believe in adoption and my mom believed it wrong to buy and sell animals. Problem is every adopted pet you get is going to be fixed and not well for sex. So you have little choice but to buy and not adopt.

While it's sad to see what happens to these shelter animals, keep in mind that paying them adoption fees is also encouraging and funding the practice to keep spaying and neutering animals.

I don’t like the term bought a dog. They’re living creatures, we adopt them. They aren’t products at a store.

Actually Craigist is a good option for adopting. While not all dogs are intact, I had found a surprisingly high number when I was browsing for a while. You just want to make sure that you're not getting scammed into taking an unhealhy untrained mess.

Holy crap...craigslist still exists? I thought that went defunct years ago.

I know you can't do sex ads anymore, and they cracked down on pets sales/adoptions at one point, and people came up missing and even a guy selling "van full of mystery meat" with a clear picture of a human finger in it.

I thought they took Craigslist down. I'll look into that, cause I'm looking at two more male dogs. I'll have to get the female husky from a breeder or swap meets though.

Yeah, Craigslist is a thing still. You can't rehome pets for money (or you're not supposed to anyway...does not stop them from having rehome fees) but there are plenty of ads out there.

Yeah, lots of weird shit happens on Craigslist but they’re still up and I still occasionally use it.
Though outright pet sales are banned, apparently rehoming is allowed - you’re even allowed to charge a “small adoption fee” but I don’t know what’s considered small… not sure if I’d trust a Craigslist post for that anyway.

I got my Rottweiler as a pup, and he is now 3 years, 7months old, but I adopted a Sumatran tiger last year, somehow just to ensure their existence to thrive .
