A toy for my dog?

As per the message... I've not been able to do anything penetrative with my own dog, a husky shepherd mix of about medium size. However she's certainly come back asking for more hand-treatment. Still, if I wanted to try to liven the experience up, what toys would even be safe for this? Both in the sense of being pet safe and for her somewhat small size.

Any good quality toys safe for humans will be safe for dogs as well. Make sure it's from a reputable maker that uses platinum body-safe silicone, as a lot of the cheaper toys from China and the clear "gel" toys can be toxic, even if they don't smell like plastic.

You won't get the same feedback as you'd get using fingers, so I would start with a smaller toy than what she can take with fingers and get one that is soft and fairly plain, ones with a texture on them might be too intense for her at first.

That is some good advice in general and not everything I considered at once. I'll see if Bad Dragon has anything in smaller sizes I suppose, maybe even help her work up to 2 fingers more comfortably this way. She's barely a large dog and, despite having had some experience with other canines, rather tight for her size.

Texture of the outer surface is actually not that important, as the longest part of the vulva is more receptive for varying movements and specifically for diameter-changing stimulation, less for "a little knob more or less".

A smooth but fluted / grooved toy (preferably like a direct linked chain of small anal beads connected by shafts, not rope) - even if small in size - can together with your fingers give ways more pleasure than any non-electric toy alone (and even more than usual vibrating toys for humans).

I personally suggest one made from either high quality medical grade silicone - very easy to clean and it keeps the warmth of hot water for several minutes (electropolished stainless steel one is a very durable and easy cleanable alternative but hard to find nowadays).

Doesn't have to be in any animal phallus shape, as those tend to be ways more expensive. The changing diameters have a bigger effect than some small rough dimples and such on the surface, which tend to over-stimulate her quite easily (less enjoyable repeatedly).

The tip from @Labraguy5 regarding "no cheap material" is absolutely right: don't use plastic ones, either won't stay intact for long or have a chance on toxins releasing from cheap quality material. Or, even worse: not well cleanable and sticking instead of gliding, not a good thing.
