When it comes to the video game department, us zoos are a tad lacking. There wouldn't be an issue securing its funding or distribution, as the game would merely involve fictional animals. However, the problems begin when we consider the public's reaction to the game being made for zoos and by zoos, not just 'feral enjoyers'.
That being said, I highly doubt a concept like this could be realized, but I absolutely wouldn't pray for its failure.
Let's begin with your thoughts. What genre should the game be? A pure sex sim, or perhaps a tale weaves between the tail-holes? Choice-based or linear? How about a tycoon? All the aspects I'll be mentioning are entirely yours to shape, and I'll cap it off with my personal take.
What species would be involved? Shall we begin with the most esteemed and introduce a greater cast as it goes on? Or should we siphon all our time into procuring just a few species? Remember, there's no time limit or deadlines to meet, so go as wild as the lions I'm adding.
Locations, such a vast variety. Prefer to keep things cozied up, or would you rather see the sights instead? Perhaps we're saddled as a lone explorer on a journey to see the whole world, or just a humble farmer tending to his animals.
Should it be 3d rendered or animated? In the case of the latter, what kind of art style would it have?
I have two ideas, actually, but I can't which is better. I'll allow you guys to cast your ballots instead.
1. A farm-based tycoon game, not too distinct from something like Stardew Valley. But of course, it's equipped with a delicious twist: the ability to form (deep) relationships with your livestock. The list would include cows, horses, sheep, goats, and pigs, all of both genders. Boasting 2d, hand-drawn graphics, the main goal would be to drive your farm to a profit while maintaining your relationships.
Perhaps there's a 'big bad' wolf who licks his lips at your sheep supply, and you'd have to 'persuade' him into becoming an ally. The game would also feature fully animated sex scenes, which you could then directly access from the menu once unlocked. It would probably be endless, but there would be plenty of achievements to earn.
2. An open-world exploration game. There would be different islands to adventure to and learn about, and even more creatures to meet on said islands. This one could definitely include mythical creatures like dragons, and I'd be extremely happy to see them represented. 3d rendering instead of 2d here, but the relationship mechanic would still be a key feature.
It'd take place on some sort of alternate earth, where beings like lions and tigers still exist, but only alongside mythical creatures like I mentioned earlier. All this adventuring and questing, just to return to your humble little abode and dog. Did I just say dog? That's right, the 'main animal' of sorts would be your dog back at home. They'd constantly inquire on what you did this time, what you brought back, what memories you made, etc. It might even make you feel a little homesick, since you know she's waiting for you while you're out fucking leopards and finding ancient ruins. But then again, the whole reason they're excited is to hear about your journey, isn't it? So if I were playing this game, I'd make sure I had plenty to tell them when I came back.
I'll attach some images for both of these, to give you a vague idea of their visuals.
Whew, that was a lot wasnt it? Apologies for running my mouth on my concepts more than the actual setup, but this is where you come in. I wanna hear your takes! Which of mine did you like better? What would you change about them? What game would you make if you had the ability? Please, do let me know, and have a wonderful evening. <3
